| And
the winner is….
Chinmayi Ghatrazu

With nearly 30 applicants for the Miss India Texas
Pageant 2008, only the top 10 contestants competed for the coveted
crown.
Through months of preparation, the contestants were
eagerly waiting for their turn in the limelight. The pageant segments
included showcasing in Indian and American formal wears. Since this
is a pageant, and not a beauty contest, the contestants were also
judged on their talents ranging from classical Indian-style dancing,
Bollywood-style dancing, karate exhibition and even poetry recital.
With beauty and flair on their side, the competition concluded with
the Question and Answer segment.
The final Q&A segment has been designed to offer
the top three contestants the opportunity to address the question
in a manner that befits them best. With such amazing responses, the
top three contestants did an outstanding job; however, there can be
only one victor.
Outshining her competition, Chinmayi Ghatrazu emerged
as the new Miss India Texas Pageant winner. A resident of Dallas,
TX and an outstanding leader of her community, Chinmayi will represent
Indian ladies throughout the state of Texas in the national finals
set to be held in August of 2009. Additionally, Chinmayi won Miss
Smile and Miss Talent. Other winners included: Sohum Bhatt (first
runner-up and Miss Eyes), Samantha Gandhi (second runner-up), Jixa
Patel (Miss Photogenic), and Sudeshna Bandyopadhyay (Miss Congeniality).
Hosted for the first time in San Antonio, the Miss
India Texas Pageant was sponsored by the Gujarati Samaj (GSSA) in
concurrence to their annual Diwali celebration. Witnessed by a “standing
room only” crowd of nearly 800 spectators, this pageant was
highly opined as another successful production organized by Raj Rauniyar,
founder of the Miss India Texas Pageant.
Formed in 2001, the Indian owned and operated Miss
India Texas Pageant has employed fair and innovative practices to
make it the largest and most experienced Indian pageantry in Texas.
Past winners have received various gifts including jewelry, screen
tests, picture portfolios, modeling opportunities and expense paid
trips to the national finals.
